I am currently in my first year of cap-exempt H1B. My current employer is willing to file PERM, and a bit new to the process. They have just filed 1 in their entire history which was approved last year for a guy with PhD. I do not have many options to switch employers easily other than to a nonprofit employer again. I got an offer from a National lab with a significantly better TC(~80% raise), but they would file GC only under EB2 NIW or EB1. Having just a Masters Degree with 0 publications/citations, I really doubt if I qualify for those categories. With that said, would you prefer to stay in a low TC university job for GC, good work-life balance, job security or is it better to switch employers at this point as I have 5 more years on H1-B? The country of Birth is India, so the same waiting game applies. Current TC: 62k Offered TC: 110k YOE: 5 Country of Birth: India #workvisa #h1b #rfe #salary
Yoe? That's a good TC for entry level!

"That's good TC for entry level". Are you for real slacker? You don't know what the F you're talking about. OP: stay there only if they sponsor an EB1. (Or until you get your I-140). Otherwise, you should probably just accept that other offer.
Low TC job on a cap exempt H1B just seems like a coasting life. If you want that for yourself sure. But personally I’d rather work in a high TC job and FIRE in India or something
Depends if you want a green card or not. $62k + clean and safe place to live is much better than in India. Lots of immigrants on Blind (not in real life) seem very entitled. Entitled to stay in this country even though they came here fully knowing they were taking a temporary work visa, and even though they’re making more money than their entire family combined back home, they want hundreds of thousands of dollars more. Don’t be like that.
62k after taxes it would be 45 approx you'll make the same if you go to India for any tech job
Fair enough, but living in the US and a path to permanent residency in the US too?
Push current employer hard to get to i140 fast. Once priority date locked in - move around. You just need some sponsor 5 years down the line after that
They are yet to start PWD too
I don't know what is eb2 niw.. is it harder than regular eb2 ? If nothing is started just move now and do eb2 next place Overall tbh the only practical use of GC for indians is if spouse wants to work on H4 ead.. otherwise it's just too far in the future for 1-2 years to matter. Other way to think is do what maximizes your learning and resume.
Eb2 for masters is ok. U shd file it asap to get in Q.
I am sure you didn't come to US for coasting. If EB1 is not an option, just maximize TC.
Canada before you age out
Lil confused which category is the employer A ( 62k employer) filing gc on?
University employer probably EB2 I believe
How can they file eb1? You don’t qualify
