I was approached by a recruiter with an insurance startup a couple months ago and wound up getting a PM offer. The base salary would be about 30k higher with the startup + a 40k equity bonus at 10k a year for 4 years. However, there's a lot of benefits at USAA that I wouldn't get at the startup like 401k match, pension contribution, lower health premiums, and less parental leave and no adoption benefits (which I may need in the next year or 2). The startup sounds like a more exciting environment with better experience but with less stability for someone with young kids. It also could result in less monthly compensation when you factor in healthcare premiums, bonuses, and retirement contributions. I'm also comfortable at USAA and work on a great team with a great work/life balance so I'm not ready to leave the environment even though the job can be slow. So do I leave for the higher base and equity or stick with what I'm comfortable with and that has better benefits for my stage in life? TC: USAA 115k (126k incl retirement) Startup 135k (per year for 4 years until fully vested) YOE: 3 as a PM + MBA
Doesn’t seem worth it to me. You could possibly find something with similar tc as the startup and benefits more comparable to Usaa
Take the risk, USAA performance is slipping, the place is sorta sinking slowly. If you have 10 more years in your career, move. If you have 4, I'd maybe wait and relax if your nest eggs are setup.

What are you PM for at USAA? I think USAA is better for your current situation based on your benefits explanation. If you have an MBA and PM experience, I think you can keep interviewing at other big tech companies while rest&vest at USAA.
I'm a PM for a digital experience within their insurance business. Based on the current market I do think I could interview with bigger and more established tech companies but I also wouldn't take a job where I worked a lot more than 40 hrs a week even if it paid a ton more
Thanks for the context. I never worked at USAA but have been in multiple tech companies and management consulting company. You’d def would work less at a big tech companies. Feel free to DM me if you have any further questions and good luck!
