Gave me an offer (1-hour call with the recruiters going over insurance premiums and whatnot and then 30 minutes with the hiring manager convincing me to join the team) which I verbally accepted on the call itself. I declined all other offers which I worked so hard for over the last few weeks. Laid off in Feb and now here I am again about to lose everything (On H1B with a family and kid) and might have to move back because someone higher up thought they should do this because they can - Employers Market. For some reason didn't think Stripe would pull off such a stunt. Trying to salvage the situation now from the offers I declined but not sure if anything would work out. #layoff #stripe #fintech #offer #severance
That sucks, reach out to other offers asap and be honest about your situation. Was there a reason for the rescinded offer?
Did they give a reason? Can you sue them?
Sorry to hear OP, all the best. I would not decline other offers until my h1 is approved especially if am currently out of job
Yeah. These were through referrals from the team. For some reason was in a situation where if I didn't join post-H1 transfer it would have shown poorly on them. And thought highly of Stripe so I didn't expect this at all. Lesson learnt the hard way
Yep, especially during uncertain times and being on Visa I wouldnt risk it. But ya, all the best for ur search
How did they do it? Your description doesn’t indicate they rescinded the offer at all.
He prob failed the background check and doesn’t want to share that.
+1
“Prob”…? Sure this is one possible explanation (one of millions) but what is your reasoning for this being the “probable” explanation?
Rule In this market, if you have multiple offers keeping it till the last day at least 2 offers. Do not think what is ethical in this market.
Are you sure it isn’t something else? Approvals down the chain have to happen before they are allowed to give offers, if that’s the case that is terrible on their end.
Sorry to hear that, but did you actually receive an offer? Or did the hiring manager just say he wanted to bring you on? Real, written, offers have been rescinded by certain employers so nothing is guaranteed. But someone saying they intend to hire you is nothing to go on. Like the saying goes, a verbal agreement isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. Sorry to hear it happened but for future, or for anyone reading this, verbal offers don’t stand up.
This was a mistake on my end. It was not just a verbal offer but call with manager, skip, and recruiter on offer details etc. This had me convinced it was a done deal given Stripe's reputation.
Totally raw deal, there’s typically lots of behind scenes approvals on these beyond manager and even their skip, especially if there’s an out of range offer in play. It depends on the org but you’d be surprised in some companies the wrenches that can get thrown in these things. All that said, recruiters and managers should be coached to never extend a verbal unless everything is approved. So it’s a big screw up on their end but I’m not sure if you have much recourse. Best of luck in the search for something else.
Dont mind. Feels sad to be tricked into it though
@New you still won't make it to stripe or PayPal so don't worry

Cleared Amazon onsite, but lowballed.
What was reason
Said comp was the higher end (I am surprised that this was higher end) which needed additional approval and the said leader didn't feel I was the right fit. Why not get all these approval in the first place before screwing someone over?
Not making sense to me
