Hi all, I'm interviewing for SD role at Stripe. I received an email today stating that they would like to proceed to the next stage, which would be a reference stage, before I've received an offer. Is this normal? I've never been asked for references before the offer. My current company would gladly give me a reference, but I don't want to tell them I plan on leaving before I have an offer 😅 #Stripe #Interview
Yes very normal in this market. Know of several companies that have done this. I have provided reference for candidates very recently.
You could give your friends from the industry and trusted colleagues as references. The whole concept is so dated.
I can get references from colleagues, managers etc. No problem... My issue is not knowing the offer, I may want to reject it if I'm not happy with it.
This is normal for nearly all Stripe offers
Very normal in this market. All companies asking for references. You are at the last stage before the offer.
It’s standard.
Hey, do you know what they should expect? I don't want my references to be put in uncomfortable situations. It kind of feels like they're been interviewed on my behalf
Likely a ~15 minute convo on your role, their role, how you worked together and what you worked together on, would they want to work with you again et cetera. Make sure they are people you trust and chat with them about it first.
Congrats. This is the last step of hiring. Make sure give the recruiter the email of people that you trust.
Thank you! Do you know what my references should expect? I read somewhere that it would likely be a 30-minute call, but this seems excessive?
