I have an offer as a SWE in NYC at Stripe. My significant other is considering going to business school in Chicago around this time next year. I see Stripe has an office in Chicago, which to my surprise, also has engineering in it. Does anyone know if Stripes can easily move between offices? Know anything about the Chicago office? And will I have to take a pay-cut from my NYC compensation or is Chicago also considered high COL. Thanks! #stripe
Two of the M7 business schools are in Chicago. Is that where your SO is planning to go?
Yes. Deciding between Booth and Kellogg
FWIW, Stripe’s new RSU policy significantly limits upside.
I’m well aware, but it’s a 400k+ offer which is 250k more than I’m getting right now and I do believe in Stripe’s long term value
Congrats!!!
What's your YOE, if you don't mind? (Just curious)
Just over 5
Since Stripe is remote friendly I wouldn’t sweat it so much, unless you’re super keen on working with an on-site team. In that case you may need to look to switch teams after a year, which will require good performance. My understanding from speaking with their recruiters, external articles, and other blind posts, you take a 10% pay cut but get a one time bonus payment of 20k.
It’s fairly easy as long as your performance is good. You should let your manager know
OP, what ended up happening? Were you able to transfer locations. Want to work out of the Chicago office as well so curious
spot on op
Did you move to Chicago OP? Wantef to ask about the Stripe Chicago office.

Chicago is 2nd tier wrt comp which means base salaries is typically 18-23% lower than Bay Area and NYC . That said, housing is much cheaper (except for property taxes)
Are you saying this just generally or specific to Stripe? My understanding is that if you want to “go remote” at Stripe or move to a low COL regardless of the presence of an office, you get a one time bonus payment and a maximum 10% cut to salary.
In general or perhaps more specifically to Google.
