Hey fellow Blinders :), I just received an L2 offer from Stripe, and I am wondering if it seems like a fair deal or if I am being under-offered. No negotiation yet, just heard numbers. No signing bonus either. I was hoping Stripe TC would be closer to $330k. Is this a bit of a low ball? Stripe offer (~300.7k) base = 166.3k annual bonus = 16.6k annual equity refresh = 117.8k Current TC at Spotify (253k): 248k cash + 5.6k food credits Role: L2 backend engineer YOE: 4.5 years FWIW, I think Spotify has better benefits overall and WLB (more vacation days, not accrued, as remote as I want to be, etc.). Spotify comp is also 100% liquid. Before Spotify I worked at Google, and I can say Spotify has even better WLB in my opinion. In talks w/ Stripe employees, I've heard multiple people talk about working 50 hour weeks (😬). But, I also think Stripe probably has more interesting/challenging tech, higher comp, and better career growth potential. Also Spotify caps comp growth around 3% / year, so this is close to the max I'll make at Spotify (🤦♂️). What should I do? #stripe #spotify #offer #l2 #engineering #software #swe
What specific skills in backend..? And what's your education level? Thanks great offers all the best
I have a standard 4-year bachelors of science CS degree. I've worked on a whole slew of backend types of stuff :).
Stripe’s equity policy totally sucks. Get other offers. Getting more than $300k with 4.5YOE won’t be hard at all. There are plenty of places that would go up to or past $400k if you can pass the interviews. For reference, I had a $350k offer when I had only 2 YOE. Try places like Instacart, Uber, Roblox, Facebook, Google, Netflix. Get 2 or more offers and then use one to negotiate the other.
Is this remote or for a particular location?
This is for NYC. Does this seem fair/on par with NYC comp you're aware of?
We literally don’t negotiate on Base pay or equity so if this is what you’re being offered, it’s fair based on your prIor experience, and what others are being offered. You can negotiate a signing bonus though so you should do that.
