Stripe vs. Google New Grad

Have two offers for Stripe and Google for new grad. Which offer would be best for career growth, name recognition, culture, and exit opportunities? Unable to negotiate further for both offers Stripe TC(Seattle): 247k average over 4 years (80k stock/year) Google TC(MTV): 200k average over 4 years Stripe: Pros: faster growing company so more opportunities pre-IPO higher TC Cons: heard about bad WLB rumors and bad culture Tech stack is in ruby (maybe not transferrable?) Weaker name recognition? Google: Pros: Good coding practices to learn as a new grad Good name recognition (better for exit opportunities?) More variety in tech stack to work with Cons: Slower career growth Lower TC

Probably include TC breakdown as that would be a factor considering Stripe is pre-IPO

stripe, equally good brand. Faster growth and more upside. Seattle lower tax, no brainer for new grad

1st/2nd year tc breakdown would probably be more helpful

Avoid Google at the start of your career. It's a very good company to work for if you're sure you don't want to grow your career and have other priorities in life.

care to explain why based on your own personal experiences?

Well, Google has a very strong promo driven culture, and it doesn't matter how hard you work as much as how much your manager wants you to succeed. You could land in a team with an awesome manager, a growing product/team and get to do a lot of things. But odds of it are low and shifting protos and changing configs or sifting through poorly documented systems/code is pretty mind numbing for someone young. The counter to that is obviously, the amazing offices and the prestige. But overall, to have a great career, you need to build things to learn and that's kinda hard or overcomplicated at google. It's an amazing company if you're L5+ and don't want to put in extra hours, no one will usually come after your ass for coasting.
