Stripe vs Microsoft

Hi, I've recently got two comparable offers from Stripe and Microsoft Azure. Both are software engineering positions, on similar levels. Which one would you recommend to follow through, and why? What do you think of the relative value of Stripe's pre-IPO equity and Microsoft's equity? Thanks. #engineering #software #stripe #microsoft #offer

Stripe. And make it a poll.

Thank you! Made it a poll. Could you elaborate on your answer?

I am very impressed by the founders. Microsoft is great too but I personally would have picked Stripe unless there is a huge difference in pay or some other deal breaker like location.

Can you describe your stripe interview experience? The answer is stripe

Oracle pzd Jun 24, 2020

Is this even a competition? Stripe all the way. Stripe offers RSUs, not options so even if the IPO is smaller than your strike price, your equity won't be worthless.

ConsenSys SASQ47 OP Jun 24, 2020

Could you elaborate on your answer? Regarding RSUs, since they are pre-IPO, should I discount their value in the TC or assume they will grow?

Oracle pzd Jun 24, 2020

Not sure what to elaborate. I just think stripe is a better company if you are aiming for professional growth. People go to Microsoft to retire. Just my opinion, since that's what you asked for. It's hard to guess how the IPO will go down, but enterprise IPOs have generally fared better in the past years. Stripe also has a fuckton of money in the bank so they can time their IPO for best possible outcome. You should definitely discount the RSUs since it's not liquid - but how much to discount is anybody's guess.

How can you get RSUs if they’re private? Is the idea that once they go public, you get a lump sum stock grant of all the previous quarters/years of stocks?

Private equity

Google double-trigger RSUs

Can you share your interview experience with stripe?

Salesforce galaxy21 Jun 24, 2020

please share both of your offer

Stripe somecsdude Jun 24, 2020

OP you can get more insight in blind by sharing offer details. And I’m genuinely interested in MS’ offer too (since you are doing a comparison) Disclosure: I worked for MS longer

ConsenSys SASQ47 OP Jun 24, 2020

How do you find Stripe comparing to MS? What MS org did you work at?

Stripe somecsdude Jun 24, 2020

A laidback Org which I didn’t enjoy. Do you want to share the offer detail?

Stripe chronjob Jun 24, 2020

Generally Stripe offer would blow past MS offer at same level. It seems MS has upped their comp (atleast for external hires)

Stripe IKwW34 Jun 24, 2020

I’ve heard lots of stories about people working 10-15h/week at MS, and the 401k match is amazing there. That said, Stripe
