Hi people, I am facing a lot of competition in my team and unable to grow in my career. Switching companies will be an option, probably a year from now(waiting for i140). Until then, I would have to continue working here. Every day, I wake up a lot of stress, and it has started affecting my personal life a lot. My coworkers work 24 x 7, and I am unable to match them and feel incompetent. I am slowly heading into depression and I can feel I am almost there. Can someone suggest me useful materials like Youtube Channel's/books/blogs that will help me change me to have a growth mindset that will help me navigate through this situation. PS I have scheduled a therapy session next week. But I wanted to learn from folks some tried and tested sources. TC: 300k, cliffing to 220k next year. #tech #mentalhealth
Is it because of your team or company culture overall?
Can you switch teams ? I was in the same boat and switched to another team and in the new team I could make an instant impact and now am one of the leads there.
That is an option, but I have an opportunity cost of initial investment. I feel if I just change the team, I reset all the work done, but for no pay increase and nothing. Switching companies makes more sense.
I thought the same but the skills and practices i gained in my competitive team helped me make an impact and set up good development practices in the new team. In the meantime for growth I recommend this book designing data intensive applications by martin klepmann. Read this as this helps you gain depth in a variety of topics and also sets you up for system design rounds when you interview after a year. Recognize that your coworkers working long hours has nothing to do with your ability and where you are in life. You can perfectly prioritize not being in the rat race with them and be happy with your own growth without comparing yourself to them. Compare to what you were few months ago than what your peers are.
