Will join FB as a E5, any suggestions what i should do to survive in first few months? And what’s the expectations for delivery?
Don't worry - You work at Amazon, so it'd be a smooth transition.
I’m L5 at Amazon and got level bumped. So I have concern about the pressure.
I guess FB e5 is easier than Amazon L6?
What’s your level at Amazon?
I’m a L5 at Amazon.
So far it looks like E5 < L6 in terms of scope. I mean you’re not even expected to lead projects until E6
This is very inaccurate. E5 is expected to lead an entire space (with multiple projects)
E6 will lead larger scope initiatives
Same here
Write lots of code. Doesn't have to be good, just lots of it.
Rather than writing helper functions, just copy paste the same code each time. It makes it look like you are writing a lot of code, but you can do it much faster! It's also easier to handle edge cases because you can add special handling only where you need it rather than worrying about how it might effect other places.
Find a good manager. /endthread No, really find a good manager who will help define a good onboarding plan which should include actionable items and timelines for every axis: project, better engineering, people and direction. Just coding ain’t going to cut it. If you just MA or EE on the project axis and have nothing to show for direction you will get PIP’d. Make sure you start on a project that has room to expand for more than one half. You’d want to be able to translate all that learning during onboarding to momentum going into your second half instead of being randomized to a completely new project where you’re ramping up again with 0 context.
Thanks for detail response! I don’t need to select team (interviewed with a team)
delivery takes about 9 months.
And pip takes about 6?
