For any DBAs on here, I'm wondering how common or easy it is to make a switch from being an Oracle dba to being a mysql dba. If you've had a number of years experience as an Oracle dba, how difficult is it to find employment as a mysql dba even with no specific mysql db administration experience?
No need or lesser needs of dbas?
What do you mean?
Our team has several MySQL clusters and we run it ourselves with no DBA support. I'm convinced that in most cases DBA's are not necessarily for MySQL.
Isn't the whole point of simplifying products or creating better products is reducing high cost-man power needed to maintain or administer them? If you are switching, find something where your work will be more valuable and not less valuable.
do companies still have dbas?
Is this a real question?
http://money.usnews.com/careers/best-jobs/rankings/best-technology-jobs DBA is #6. https://www.bls.gov/ooh/computer-and-information-technology/mobile/database-administrators.htm
No one hires dbas anymore
Strange. I see dba job listings all the time.

MySQL is simple. Oracle is much more difficult.
So does this mean an Oracle dba with several years of experience would not find it too difficult in landing a job as a mysql dba?
You should learn other skills. MySQL dbas aren't in demand.
