I recently got an offer from Synopsys for R&D Engineer Senior II position. I have a total of 7 years of experience. Here is the compensation details Base: 140k Annual Bonus: 12% No sign on bonus and RSU. I accepted the offer. What should be the ideal compensation for this position?
Better than me for the same title and YOE
It’s pretty low per Bay Area standard. Don’t expect annual raise to be high. I have seen with promotion cycle the raise aren’t higher than 5-6%
That’s the best offer for 7 yoe. They normally do 125k. But this looks good offer.
Any idea what kind of offer they do for the staff level?
TC looks low, and if you are young, don’t come and try other companies, unless you have $$ problem and need it urgently now
Couple folks here with similar stats as OP are saying it’s on par for SNPS. Do you have a counterexample for level 67 R&D at 7 YOE?
I am making same at 11 YOE and same post ... looks pretty good AFIK, especially sr II is rare at 7 YOE.
Wtf? 11 yoe should easily be Staff, shouldn’t it?
Yes. Exactly
You can play it in different ways , one of the way I’d think of is pursue cadence and with this offer, if you clear their interviews they will easily up it by 10-15%
What did you mean by cadence?
What I meant was pursue a position in cadence and clear their interviews. It shouldn’t be that difficult now that you have cleared SNPS. Once you get to the offer stage , show them SNPS offer and they will pay you more than what SNPS is offering
How many YOE usually needed for Staff Engineer at Synopsys? I'm surprised 11 YOE would just be Senior II.
I've seen sr II who are 16-17 YOE in snsps ... i am sure there'll be 20 YOE sr II too
Wtf? How high does TC for the senior II role go? You'd be let go for staying at one grade that long at Intel
Lowballed. I’m making 140k base at Sr 1, 5 YOE. Sr 2 should be 160k base
BU and location? Are you R&D?
Bluff, or competetive hire.. 160k is even high for staff.
My most of the work will be on Python as a R&D Engineer. Is the quality of work good at SNPS?

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Location? YOE?
Mountain View, California
It looks OK then, it is definitely not a high end offer but Snps is notorious on lowballing everyone including talents.
