Does T Mobile discuss and approach with any salary revision, if we plan to quit ? like matching the new offer or at least a number close to it. Level : Sr Software Engineer TC : 155K New TC : 210K Remote YoE: 9
Before you ask TMO that question, you need to ask yourself why did you start interviewing? Was it only because you wanted more money or was it something else? Like you being passed over for promotion or more interesting projects etc.... If it was just for more money, well you got it why would want to stay? If it was because of other things, those wont change even if TMO matched! Your decision was made when you started interviewing externally and also asking employer to match rarely has an happy ending, most of the times they might match for someone in critiyrole but start looking for replacement right away because asking for match is more or less blackmail with a threat to quit ..
I was looking for complete remote option , but if iTMo can offer remote with slightly less number also , i would want to consider staying back.
Well they could match comp and offer remote to match, if you are truly critical to whatever your team works on. But most likely you would see a backlash because they gave you those benefits under the threat of you leaving....
Yes they could
Nope
No, they don't. I received offer from oracle for a 40k total bump, let management know and never received word back. Few days later manager approached and on our 1-1 he gently reminded me that 2 weeks is professional. If you have the offer, I highly recommend accepting.
Purely anecdotal, and I’m sure every manager/team is different; but yes they can negotiate. I was offered an $18k salary increase by Amazon and TMO offered me a $15k raise to stay and I took it. This was roughly 4 years ago
Depends on manager/ VP team. I’ve seen CRAZY counter offers that have no business being made just to keep an A player around
i am the same OP , my ID is changed. In my case - the new job is a remote with a change of 50K more TC. I still have not discussed with my manager yet about the new offer, since the visa transfer for the new company is in progress. Had a regular monthly one on one in this week and now he is hinting that he can be able to get the complete remote and don't want to lose me for this reason (he mentioned this almost 10 times cos i am a critical resource in the project). Not sure how he got the opinion that i am looking outside cos 3 months back he was not so positive to provide me remote. I want to break the news some time next week once my visa formalities are over , not sure if they would be able to match extra 50K with remote to a low cost of living location. I would like to stay back if they can provide the remote with salary match , but i don't want this to be the reason for any future backlash and doesn't sound i am blackmailing with this reason. If they don't match i am happy to leave. Can you suggest what should i do about this ? How in general management approach these kind of situation , if you know incase.
If you want to see if they can match it, then I would give them 2-3 days to create a counter that you would accept otherwise take the other offer. I would frame it as I have accepted this offer of X, Y and Z but if you are able to match it in these areas (including remote) then I am willing to stay. You need to do this when you deliver the message of I have accepted an offer at a new place and here is what they offered. That sets everything in motion and the emotion of losing you will be high at the moment which spurs action on their part. If they don’t seem willing to counter then you know you made the right decision. Stating that you are willing to stay for the right offer shouldn’t burn any bridges.
It sounds like this could go either way. Have you reached out to your HR Partner or talked to your manager yet?

What's the question here? It's says you are working for Cognizant...what's with quitting TMO? Or if you are going to join TMO for 220k are you asking about counter offer if you have more from other company
Sorry , edited my question. I no longer work for Cognizant , working for TMo as FT only .. question is , will Tmo discuss to retain by matching the new offer if planning to quit. does they do it et all ?
