Very confused that T-Mobile is doing this. They are soon going to become one of the world’s most powerful companies after the merger. I would have expected them to give all their employees massive raises in order to celebrate their new position as one of the top companies in the country. I think that massive raises would go a long way to helping people out instead of laying people off.

It does not unfortunately work like that. When 2 companies merge, theres just two of everything - two marketing depts, two sales Dept, two research wings, etc. So time for layoff. This is how they offset the other one time costs of restructuring the business etc for the first few years at least - all that money saved from laying off people will help show higher profits so the C-suite can make more money. The employees themselves are asked to do ~twice the amount of work. Welcome to Capitalism!

All I know is they are hiring and promoting left and right in my department.

This is what I was expecting. T-Mobile is in a position to give out massive raises to everyone. If I were in charge the first thing on my mind would be on how to give out massive raises to everyone.

Which department are you in? Last I heard is that promotions are still under some sort of freeze
