Cupertino vs NY

How’s life in Cupertino when moving from NY? If I was moving from NY. Would you suggest moving to Cupertino? Or to some other location nearby that where I can drive to and fro office? (Maybe a close by city with a more vibrant lifestyle)

NY itself is pretty big but assuming you mean Manhattan or nearby, it will be night and day. Cupertino is all suburbia. If looking for a vibrant lifestyle, SF would be the closest. Mountain view has a tiny downtown with a few bars, downtown San Jose has some nightlife but may not be the crowd you want to hang with.

I was considering SF too. When you say SF, you mean the Bay Area right? Sorry I’m too new to the west coast. Only been in NYC so far

In this case, SF would be the actual city of San Francisco

If you mean NYC, Cupertino is way too different. You should consider SF. Now, from SF, the commute to Cupertino will be long (around an hour depending on traffic).

Ahh I see. I agree, Cupertino is a 1 hour drive. But still might be worth it. My idea was to take an Airbnb in Cupertino to work from 2-3 days a week, while staying in SF most of the time

It's 1 hour without any traffic.

Cupertino and surrounding areas are various flavors of suburbia. There’s no nearby city that will be as vibrant as NYC. San Jose will probably have the most diversity of things going on but it still isn’t NYC. I think lifestyle down here revolves around food, recreation (rock climbing, hiking, ultimate), sports, and driving anywhere else for more vibrance (going to tahoe, monterey, etc). You can probably live anywhere and just drive (depending on your traffic tolerance). You could provide some of your interests and someone could give you better recs

Amazing, that sounds about what I do in NYC. Except for a museum or 2 time to time. What are some of the best locations to drive to? I really love food, movies, new experiences, tech & non-tech museums, bars maybe, and of course, exploring. (open to sports and hiking stuff)

There’s plenty of good food everywhere. For museums SF has a few good ones (they also have MoMA + some other ones). For hiking theres plenty of places, can probably download the AllTrails app and look around. Mission Peak is a common one. Common places people drive to: Napa for wine, Tahoe for snow, Monterey + Carmel + Big Sur as a nice weekend getaway, Yosemite for the great outdoors. Also Muir Woods and Mount Tamalpais for hiking.

FYI Apple has a ton of free shuttle buses from SF so that would make the commute more bearable. Cupertino is very boring suburbia, albeit nice, bonkers expensive, and really close to nearby mountains for hiking etc

San Jose downtown nightlife is pretty lame. It has _some_ but far cry from SF and NY.
