TC Bands for FB/G?

Been working on an AWS team for a little over a year now, doing well, honestly great work/life balance (can comfortably finish my sprint with 30 hours a week on average), and was on track for promo to SDE II within 1.5 years. Until multiple management changes and currently without a manager. Promo seems very unsure now with no concrete timeline for new manager and I’ve been thinking of leaving anyways. Just thought it’d be nice to have a promo on my resume before jumping ship… the only two FANGS I’d consider are FB or G Will FB/G hire me for SDE II level with (by the time I actually interview and switch) 1.5 YOE? Wondering what the pay bands are. I’m currently in Seattle with no state/local tax. I’d be happy with lower end of SDE II band, but not sure how I’d feel starting over as SDE I and working towards promo all over again. Also, ideally would leave Seattle for LA/SF/NYC and preferably option to work remote or at the very least, hybrid with flexibility to work remote for weeks at a time if I want to work in different locations TC: 155k YOE: 1

Usually for an industry hire, G looks for 2-3yoe for L3.

Do you mean L4?

Amazon rustacean Aug 13, 2021

No. If you’re not a new grad and are an industry hire, 0-2yoe will generally get you ghosted, 2-3yoe will grant you the prestigious slotting of L3. ~4-6yoe will get you slotted for L4 and usually 7yoe will slot you for L5. I’m less sure about L6+, but it’s probably a combination of yoe, company, role, leadership experience, etc. There are exceptions; FB is one of the “prestigious” companies to Google (company-wide), an advanced degree will knock off ~2yoe for leveling requirements, and you can always be downleveled (eg 7yoe -> L4, 15yoe->L5, etc)

for G L4, I’d say 2 yoe is more realistic unless you did terrific in interviews or you have good competing offers (say fb IC4) Pay band: 230k without competing offer, 300k with decent competing offer

Looked at Levels, IC is for product designers right? I’m SWE so I think SDE II equivalent would be E4 but either way, sounds good, thanks.

IC = independent contributor, IC4 =E4
