I am currently making 200k TC- Base 165k and stocks worth almost 35k annually. No bonus at all. I have 7 years of total experience - 4 years of USA and 3 yrs of outside USA. Did my masters here. I am based in SF Bay Area. What is ideal TC for software engineer living in Bay Area with this experience? I know it’s all depends on company. However just wanted to know how much folks are making with same experience in general. Thanks!
200k is good comp for your exp.
Between 75k and 750k if you really must know.
I would say this is average in bay area for your experience High end would be somewhere around 250k. ( Even higher for paper money)
I definitely don't think high end would be 250k for 7 years experience. L4s at Google who started 1.5 years back make around 250-260k. With 7 years you are probably looking at L5 salaries or negotiated ones which would be like 400-500k at high end. But it's pretty rare. I think 200k total comp with 7 years of experience is kinda low given that OP works at nutanix which pays decently well.
I assumed outside US experience was not significant, but I could be wrong
I think it’s average salary I have 7 years experience all in us and make a bit more but yes if you get new offer that would be at least 250k
How much more?
General range really is not important, you can always interview and figure out how much companies value you. I have 3 years in SV and total 7 (4 outside is not that valuable ). I interviewed and offer flow was this 215 -> 250 -> 280. I stopped at 280 and I think 300 was possible.
it's definitely less if you compare it to FANG. otherwise, it's slightly above par.
Thank you all. I think I need to try my luck outside.
Where outside of US?

Honestly mate it all depends how good you are. Just interview around and see what you can get. The range is so big it's useless if you can't figure out where within it you fall.
