Anyone with engineering degree in Electronics and Communication field faced any problems while getting their TN visa approved for software development jobs?
No. My degree said electronics and communication engineer: computer science option and I got my TN approved no questions asked. And I also got a green card from my TN.
No. I have a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications engineering, got a TN 3 times, twice at the consulate, last time inside the US. 0 issues. This was 14 years ago, though.
Depends on the job. You would have zero issues for jobs in electrical engineering or embedded software.
I was asking about software development jobs.
The category is “computer system analyst”, which is different than SDE. You would have issues with degree relevance here as border guards will be expecting a CS or related degree. Business tech like MIS can also work. This category is NOT programming and if you give the hint your job is mostly programming (ex: SDE role) you will be denied. To land a job as SDE reliably on TN status you need a Software Engineering or Computer Engineering degree. Any other degree poses a risk of denial at the border for having a non-related engineering degree. Your electrical engineering degree has a significant risk of being viewed as unrelated for an SDE role and thus you may be denied even when applying under engineer category.
