This is blind so likely folks will say to chase the dollar. Folks, I am one of the engineers msft hired in the massive engineering expansion within last 2 years but I am a newbie for msft standards. Majority of the people I work with are in Redmond but I am not. Initially things were fine but I am having a tough time feeling like I belong to the team and company if that makes sense? There is a lot of fomo that I feel being away from team and org. Obviously working in satellite office there is a community but most of my team is not here. I casually looked for jobs and found a pretty interesting role at a "lower tier" company. The hiring manager was interested in my reason for switch and both them and through recruiter they reiterated on why I am leaving msft since I relatively new and i am full time employee. I did not say anything bad about msft or my team or org because there is nothing bad about the team or org. I would have to move but the company is near family and a major hub. I think career growth wise it may be easier since I will be closer to action and management. So far the product area, tech stack etc all look good too. Yet to discuss TC and there is a col difference but pretty sure it will be at least a 20 percent cut after col is taken into consideration. I might have an easier time surviving layoff, pip and rif since there will be some bias gojg into recession. Msft just had cuts though not in engineering. There is a ton of rumors bur all fear mongering right now. Though who knows what Papa Satya has planned 😂 Considering employment at Mastercard. I read old threads but only found visa inc and that too bad things. Not much about Mastercard but pretty much everyone wants to go from financial services to tech not other way around. I won't even call these payment processing companies fintech tbh... TC:170K New tc would be less.
Pretty big red flag when the hiring manager is surprised you’d consider joining over your current position. It means they know they don’t have a competitive edge, so your perception of “faster career growth” might be wrong. There are plenty of roles at remote-friendly companies that will pay TC at or above MSFT’s and also offer more growth. I’d say do more research and find these companies.
I might have exaggerated that. Now that I recall it was more like "Why are you looking to switch since you are a fte at Microsoft " they were interested in motivation due to not long tenure especially since I did not say anything negative about my team.
Let me edit my post stripe.
Yes worth it. I did take pay cut 10 years back for company and growth - it payed off like crazy. Now am joining same TC with G- hoping it will pay off
Sarcasm? Same tc with Google after a decade 😂
With G is same as current TC (obviously not of decade old). Point is it’s worth changing job with same or lower TC with good prospects - in my view.
I’ve done it in the past and it paid off a lot in the long run.
Poll plz. And stability is important. U won’t get a job easily when economy is good. Take a balance between stability and growth.
Have not heard of Mastercard layoff honestly
Hey, stay there.. There is no career growth at Mastercard plus looooooow tc
Look for a better fintech opportunity like a stripe or square. I’m moving from visa to Microsoft in august and would not recommend going the other way - even for more tc
Which is this lower tier company?
Mastercard.
