I currently work as a Senior SW Engineer at Hubspot. I joined Hubspot August, 2021 with aspirations of becoming a TL, but the embedding is still going on with no real time-frame. Director of Engineering @ Target reached out to me in May regarding a Lead Engineer role. This Lead role will be with a brand new team that would deal with data & ML/AI problems. This is a greenfield space & the Lead Engg will play a key role right from the inception of project. Offer from Target is, Base pay - $180,000 Sign-On - $9000 RSU - $75000 vested over 4 yrs (25% every year) Yearly bonus - $20000+ (10% or more of total comp) With Hubspot my current comp is, Base pay - $165000 RSU - $140000 vested over 4 yrs (25% every year) Location - Both are remote roles. Am in Austin, TX currently YOE - 10 While Hubspot is an amazing company w.r.t benefits, WLB etc, the opportunity with Target seems a little more aligned with my career goals and experience of handling greenfield project that will look good on the resume. Need Y'all thoughts & comments on this please. Have also created a poll with same options. #Target #Hubspot UPDATE - I have accepted the offer with Target. Thank u all for ur votes and comments
Location?
Austin. Updated the description
Did the HM use the word greenfield space or Greenfield? Greenfield is a BI internal tool for Target; they have been trying to develop the tool, and make it robust for ages since they are too cheap to get an enterprise Power BI license lol
Greenfield in general sense.. Meaning âNothing is built so far and you will be driving stuff ground upâ
Got it. Just don't want you getting duped by semantics đthe internal tool is hot garbage lol
Target: one step closer to Albertson's.
I donât get the reference sorry đ
Do you even blind? Albertson's is the holy grail that faang engineers dream of.
Just be careful with remote work at target. You will sign an agreement that needs to be renewed yearly by your director. Target isn't very remote friendly. So even if you are hired in remote, I know people that got the notice that they needed to return to office
Wow I need to ask for a raise if theyâre offering lead engineers that much
Are you getting RSUs ?
Nope
Man that's good salary for lead at Target 200k+. What experience you have got?
YOE is 10.. Been a Lead Engg for majority of my career.. :)
Awesome. I meant in terms technologies and or soft skills
So this is L6?
Yes đ
I would try to negotiate higher salary if youâre planning to stay. Donât take a sign on and try to get 195-200 salary.
Havenât heard that Target L6 engineers get paid that much! I would go for Target
What average have you heard for L6?
around 150
I got 20k signon in 2019 for Engineer so they should be able to do that or more for a lead
Base package (as per the recruiter and mgr) is almost at the top end of the max itseems. Hence thatsall they were able to do.

Wow target comp is low! You will get at least double in Amazon!
Tried and failed the interview many times :(
Phoenix, if you value life over working all hours youâll be fine taking less $ at Target.
