What is the culture like for tech teams at Target? Specifically: - what does leadership care about most? - are people building new exciting things? Or focused on maintaining old systems/processes? - do they micromanage? They’re telling me it’s more like a tech startup environment but curious how true that is given it’s an old company #target @target
I doubt the tech startup thing… tons of ex TCS and Wipro folks there as FT…
They probably mean disorganized. HR turns a blind eye to sex on conference tables after hours. The benefits of working in the office is free cereal, stale food, nutrigrain bars, and all the instant coffee packets your kidneys can handle. This the mental image I conjure when corporations dodge this question with that answer. Never underestimate the messed up stuff that “startup culture” includes.
have you worked there?
No, but I roll my eyes at corporations pretending to be nimble startups while being governed by much longer time schedules and shareholder responsibilities. Also the laziness of using that term broadly shows they have no idea what they align themselves with.
Target is not a start-up and is not know for having an innovative start-up culture.
Does Target have SDET or QA Automation roles? Also do they have an office in the Seattle area or full remote positions?
It's pretty typical fortune 500. Big, bureaucratic, claiming to be a "tech company" while paying about 60% of big tech. Chill culture, micromanaging is rare, there's some exciting things but it's team dependent. Leaders aren't typically technical, they have to settle for background in tech with management experience and people skills.
