Hey guys! Posting on behalf of a friend. She got 2 offers 1 as a senior machine learning engineer at target and as a new grad sde at amazon so just wanted insights from people working there. How is the work life balance at target ? I have heard a lot about Amazon but not much from target is it worth going to work there for the fancy title? Any help is appreciated...thanks #target #amazon

Which location? I ask because the Sunnyvale data science org has gone through major org changes recently and the situation is very uncertain. In general, you can’t be very successful at Target if you’re not in Minneapolis or India. WLB will be better at Target. But it sounds like your friend is a new grad and may be wlb shouldn’t be the primary focus?
She got it in Minneapolis so what is the situation there. Its just that target is offering a good package when compared to amazon and the role looks promising so was wondering. Any idea how work in that specific role is ?
pros: - Minneapolis HQ is where all the power is :) I've heard that DS org will hire and grow only in Minneapolis from now on. In general, Target execs have always been hesitant in investing in Bay Area offices or anywhere outside of Minneapolis for that matter. This will NEVER change - DS org hasn't delivered a lot in the past mainly because of all the SV vs Minneapolis politics and lack of partnerships. So, there is plenty of opportunities to do some good work cons: - Target is not a tech company...the engineering org is in a much better state than where it was a few years back. But, it'll never be a tech company like Amazon - Minneapolis winters...harsh, long and depressing. A big factor if you're moving from warmer weather - Culture - you can thrive if you can navigate the passive-aggression 'niceness'. Can be daunting at first if you're not used to it
What is the salary offered by target?
