Tata Consultancy Services (WITCH)

TC: 62K, 2-3 YOE in Marketing, 1-2 YOE in Analytics Hi all, I was recently contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn from TCS (part of a set of consulting firms known as WITCH) in regards to a Data Specialist position. Would anyone know what the interview process and work culture is like for a new hire? I’ve used the search function, but a lot of the results are mixed. I’m looking for growth opportunities and WLB, especially since I’m more junior in my role. Thank you for all of your help. EDIT: I’m a U.S. citizen and not on H1B, so I’d be fine in that regard.

Issa joke?

MRM TWG_202022 OP Nov 22, 2022

No. I’m being serious. I wanted to see what the perception of TCS was on Blind, especially since I’m passively looking at the moment.

Do the interview but don't take the job unless your pay is doubled at least

MRM TWG_202022 OP Nov 22, 2022

Thank you for your post. I am looking to double my salary, but from what I’ve seen, TCS tends to have a low range to work with. I’ll check and see.

They are notorious for paying below market rate for employees. They tend to exploit those on a work visa in the US with the allure of continuing to work in the US. Just like any other Indian consulting company. They take on a lot of outsourced projects from the US and have a lot of offices in India.

They have mostly client specific roles. You can go through the process and find which client they are hiring for. Sometimes you can then join that client directly after a year or so if they are promising and like you.

MRM TWG_202022 OP Nov 22, 2022

Thank you for your post. From the job description provided, it seems to be a FAANG company, but I’m not sure. I’ll ask about the client once the interview is scheduled.

Please, for the love of god, do not join WITCH. The shithead CEOs of these companies make millions while paying their Indian employees peanuts. Not very shocking to see Indian employees making $500 a month in India while the CEO makes $3.5M.

MRM TWG_202022 OP Nov 22, 2022

Thank you for your post. If that’s true, then I’ll be more wary of joining, especially since I’d like to break into 6 figures soon.

Ask for $$$$. Non visa employees are paid market rate.

MRM TWG_202022 OP Nov 23, 2022

Definitely. I haven’t heard anything back yet, but I’ll see what they’re offering.

I would advise against taking the job there as there are very less growth opportunities. WLB would be great but quality of work is not there.

MRM TWG_202022 OP Nov 24, 2022

Good to know. Thank you for taking the time to post.

Op, if you want job security, stable income .. tcs can be option , all product company hire and fire .in terms of compensation please ask what you worth for , learn and keep interviewing. This is an unstable market, one thing is for sure tcs never fire:)

MRM TWG_202022 OP Nov 24, 2022

That sounds interesting. I’d definitely like job stability when it comes to riding out this job market. Thank you for the post and advice.

If US citizen, assume you are in the US? Depending on location you should be able to secure +$100K in current environment. Don't expect any growth opportunity,

MRM TWG_202022 OP Dec 1, 2022

Thank you for your comment. I would prefer growth opportunities, but WLB and comp take priority.

Take the job, focus on the customer, work harder than others, do the work no one else wants to do, be visible, be engaged, always do the right thing, have patience, there are no shortcuts. Your career will grow organically.

My current tc is 70k and I’ve been wfh for the past year and a half. I’m a SDE though, not a data engineer.

MRM TWG_202022 OP Dec 1, 2022

Thank you for your insight. That would be very similar to my TC, and WFH is a huge selling point for me, so I’ll keep that in mind.

Glad to help. Good luck with your future endeavors!

Dude, it’s a great company. I have with them for 9+ years. I wouldn’t suggest joining at this stage of your life but a great company once you have some experience and want to chill in life. DM me if you want more info.
