Hi I just moved to a Uber and my work state is CA , but I live in WA. But when paycheck came they deducted CA tax. Is that the norm? I believed it is based on where you live. How can I fix it? Thanks TC:370
Chances are your payroll department will not change your withholding. CA state rule is that any income sourced from CA is taxable irrespective of the taxpayer’s residency. You will need to file two states return come tax time in 2023 to claim credit on the taxes you paid to CA so that you’re not double taxed.
Thanks
Yes, payroll won't change unless you r approved and start remote. I had CA withholding last year but live in GA.. we can take CA tax paid as credit to GA but I can't get back CA-GA tax difference. But since WA had no tax, I am not sure how to take credit of CA tax..
