I recently left Walmart and need to pay them the benefits back. They had paid me 9k for a relocation trip . There recovery team is asking for 13k ( 9k + 4k taxes that Walmart paid on my behalf) . I am confused why I need to refund the tax amount. Any guidance would help!
You can recover the tax as part of your year end tax return
What documentation would I need to recover it as part of my returns. Walmart hasn’t provided me any documentation for it. I have been digging to understand the extra amount
The w2 should show the reloc amt as income and taxes withheld
Okay. Thanks a ton for your help!

How many books do you usually read in a year?
Sometimes there is a clause in the offer letter which states you need to give back the tax amount as well if it's been over a year or past the tax filing date! Not sure how can you contest that but I would at least talk to the HR to get rid of it.
There is nothing specific mentioned about taxes in my offer letter. I will talk with the recovery team to try get rid of it. Thanks!!
