What is the culture like there for software engineering? With the merger and everything? Can anyone give some updates? Are they hiring aggressively now? What's the career progression and compensation progression look like? Are TD people leaving? #charlesschwab #tdameritrade #finance #software
TDA was wonderful pre-acquisition. Not sure about after but assuming they kept some things as they were WLB was great, no one worked hard, and pay was high within the low COL areas. There are some cool projects if you can find good teams. Some teams work on legacy spring batch applications so I would try to avoid those
Working on a conversation team. Was moved over from the TD side to the Schwab side. Iâve not had the same experience as some of the people here. Management/leadership imo is lacking. A lot of time itâs all about the projects and not the people. Culture; I think the Schwab side has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to become tech oriented. TD has lost most of its engineers and are just trying to stay in maintenance mode. Yes, heavy hiring is going on because a lot of TD people have left. Itâs just a different culture and Schwab is slower at progressing. Compensation is so-so. I the pay is the same, the health insurance is worse, and the 401k is better.
WLB is like the only selling point of Schwab. If you want a job where you can just coast and barely do anything, Schwab's got you covered on that. If you want a job that challenges you and helps you learn and grow in your career, you need to work somewhere else for that. That's the main reason I'm leaving in 2022 (that plus the pay is very mediocre).
Hiring very aggressively. Culture and WLB are excellent. Lower TC, but many locations in LCOL states/cities. Strong likelihood of remote working. Probably slower to promote compared to tech companies, but good managers. Typically 3-4% raise every year if you donât suck ass.
Completely agree with whatâs written above. Return to office delayed further as well due to omicron which means remote working is here to stay
This is spot on, I agree as a Schwabbie. Promotions up to people leader are fast, after that is slow, which normally applies everywhere. Leadership cares for people genuinely. Pay will never match up tech.
