Tech companies/careers in LA

I live in the Bay Area and am thinking of moving to LA/Irvine area. Work in a strategy/BD role in Google. I know if I move companies there is a lot to go to in the Bay Area but not aware of how active the tech scene is in LA. Anyone can give insight into potential companies to move to in that area? Appreciate all insights.

Amazon/ A2Z

It's a pretty active scene here but not on scale of the Bay Area. You've got Google and FB here. Also Amazon, Snap, Hulu, Netflix. Lots of startups in e-commerce, fashion, and some B2B. Aerospace and entertainment are big business down here.

Depends where you see yourself long term. LA has lots in adtech, media/content, e-commerce. I’m in B2B and there’s not a ton here. Some promising startups but also a lot of fluff.

Transfer with google to Irvine or LA

Google omyb70 Jan 2, 2020

Agreed 👆If you haven’t already, spend some time in both cities, they are vastly different.

Caveat if you go to google LA: watch where you step around the office. I stepped in literal human shit outside the building in December. It’s surrounded by a homeless encampment, and Google security and occasional city street cleaning teams can only do so much to keep the area clean. I’d say about a third of the encampment is under the influence of drugs or have lost their minds completely, and some others like to occasionally fight over cigarettes and things.

Keep in mind you are working at Google HQ. For getting the best projects and for scope of upward mobility, it's best to be closest to leadership and HQ. Working for a company that has a satellite office in LA might not offer similar opportunities and speed and responsibilities. Good luck!

Yes, but life in the bay area sux. LA is the best.

Amazon cueicjw24 Jan 2, 2020

Agreed. LA you can actually have a fun and interesting life, Bay Area is just all tech

Google npgJ23 Jan 2, 2020

Why not internally transfer to Google LA/Irvine?
