Is this even still a question? Or for those on this forum in Finance, why Finance over tech, and what do you do in Finance? I don’t really know any jobs in finance other than Investment Banking #finance #tech #compare
$$$ > $$.
lol @ the citadel shills
Bitcoin is gonna btfo all finance
This platform is heavily screwed towards developers. You will get biased answers
For me the differences in pay are: - Tech pays in stock - Finance pays in cash For the last 10 years tech has done great so that made tech salaries 2x those of finance for the most part. In terms of culture: - Finance is more old school, with more hierarchy and software is still not well respected. - Tech has some jerks too but a lot of respect for software engineering and a bit of Peter Pan syndrome. Also better place for millennials.
Meaningless question. 'Finance' is a blanket term that covers a huge range of jobs - hedge fund PMs, investment banking analysts, programmers at a big bank, quants, risk/compliance professionals, traders, etc.
Investment Banking and Private Equity are still 2 very popular paths for grads from top schools. -Pay is usually 150k-200k range for new grads for top banks like GS, Evercore, etc. -Average 70 hour work week, building excel models and working on powerpoint decks. -Kids go there usually since there's a lot of "exit opportunities". They go into corp finance, MBA, strategy roles, fundamental hedge funds, etc. Those who stay in Investment Banking or Private Equity long term have guaranteed promotions and TC bumps. VPs with 6+YOE easily pull 500k+. Stay at it even longer, and you are guaranteed 1mill+ as MDs.
Nope, not a thing anymore. Ten years ago GS was the top place to be; at the time it made the list for overall best paying companies. Now it's big tech.
Correction: now it's small tech.
GS was never the top place to be lol. They have always been a few leagues below hedge/private funds.
