==update My reference to wm manager role is to not imply i/we are high and mighty. We aren't and I am thankful for everything I have. My post is more about the self-hate I see prevalent in tech and it blows my mind. == That's it! Plain and simple. When a Walmart store manager, a role that doesn't require college degree, can earn 450k a year + stock options - we as SWEs/engineers are drastically underpaid. I am tired of blind posts and folks that aren't ICs suggesting that we are overpaid. Influencers/vloggers hurt our image as employees that don't put in effort or work hard. We most definitely do and it is reflected in successes of companies we work for. YOE: 13 TC: 430K #normalizeOneMillionTC #amazon #google #meta
You can’t have Walmart store manager work in India
Don't they have Walmart in India?
It is much harder to manage a Walmart store with all its hr, logistics, security, theft, counterfeit issues. Handling the worst of humanity, drug abusers, thieves, Karens as customers, employees. Copy pasting from stack overflow is much easier in comparison.
The manager of a Walmart store has other managers and assistant managers of those managers, and shift leads etc. etc. that manage all that. The WM manager himself isn't hands-on doing any of that
I think a lot of SWEs forget just how impossibly hard programming is for most people.
Annual salary is still $128K for those wm managers and the rest is based on sales. It’d be substantially harder to earn that $400K in the stores vs in tech, but if you think it’s that easy feel free to vote with your feet
“We most definitely do and it is reflected in successes of companies we work for.” Absolutely not. Most (90% plus) tech workers get to a place when the company is already successful with minimal skills to sustain a job
Yes, AWS launched EC2 and stopped innovating or building new services.... 🤡
You’re overpaid
Shit well i guess you are about feel more salty because my new gig is going to be paying me 1M+.
What is your new gig?
You’re definitely overpaid, and should get paid less for your lack of EQ and social awareness. Those managers work much harder than you ever will, and for you to make that much at 13 YOE confirms that you’re overpaid. Go outside.
Gtfo no they don't. The have army of low wage employees that do all the brunt work and they have zero empathy toward them. A WM doesn't do any physical or hands on work - they have army of minions doing their bidding. Don't conflate hourly workers vs WM manager. I swear, tech folks are the only ones that self-hate so much. Stay salty my friend.
OP tell me you've never dealt with managing people without telling me you've never dealt with managing people 🤔
Lots of salt in these comments.
Disagreement = salt? Amazon hires people with an impressively low capability for verbal and language skills these days
Your disagreement is biased. Hence the salty comment
The upper class just loves it when the peasants fight amongst themselves for the pennies they get paid and take on the mentality that everyone should be paid poorly
This! Exactly - it's mind blowing the mind job they have done on the masses and folks feed into it.
Making 500k at age of 30 makes you the upper class in many parts of the country
One of my favorite anecdotes, "You see that bucket of water over there, go put your hand in it, then take it out. That's the impression you'll leave on this company." Your work has almost zero impact, get over yourself. Your VAR (value against replacement) is 0.
Were you a janitor? Can’t think of another place at work with a bucket of water
lol there’s bucket of water everywhere here, MK are everywhere
