I will be joining a new company next week (Oct 22). I have two travel plans for the month of November which I had planned 3 months ago and had no idea I will join in Oct. Each of them requires a day off on Friday. I am worried about telling this to the new manager in the first week. Will it create a bad impression? What are my options? Flight tickets are non-refundable and I will lose ~USD 1200. Edit: company has unlimited leave policy and I am planing to offer to work extra in earlier and later weeks if needed.
Normal. Very normal.
You mean I should tell him, correct?
Yeah. The odds of someone joining a new company and not having any preplanned vacations are slim to none.
Ideally you should have given them a heads up at the offer stage but it’s no big deal
I didn't expect to join in Oct. I was planning for Nov end.
When you change the joining date, you tell them..
Ya this is normal. I let my manager know upon joining that I had vacay planned for Xmas, she was like cool thanks for letting me know.
That's great
A vacation right off the bat? You havent even earned the days yet. Cancel. You need to mention this before taking the offer... Id fire you.
It's unlimited. No earning no losing.
🙄
Tell as soon as you can. Let them know it’s been long planned and you’ll ensure smooth coverage while out.
Sure.
You coming to Commvault?
Yes, your team?
Awww...look at you. Not gonna give up my anonymity sorry. But welcome aboard! Exciting times here. Not sarcastic.
Your life shouldn’t stop because of work.
^this
Should tell the hiring manager when offer is extended. This is a good way to start a relationship. Managers will almost always accommodate existing travel plans.
Didn't know the exact team and manager earlier so couldn't do this. Plan to do this in 1:1
It’s a day off a week for three weeks, literally no one will care
Only 2 weeks, so I hope I'm in a better situation.
