Is that TC enough to pay for rent?

Palo alto cost much much more than michigan.

Daimler Rari0009 Feb 13, 2023

Agreed. Do you know what are my options to live other than Palo Alto, if I work there

Walmart Wwq168 Feb 13, 2023

Yea, east bay is a lot cheaper, a lil bit of a commute,

In my opinion, 120K in MI is better than 160K in Bay area. Housing is very expensive. Based on if you have a family, 160K+45K will be tight on budget. Just to give you some context, a reasonable 1BHK apartment with inhouse washer dryer with A/C would be any where from 2.4-3.2K. Also state tax code is different, so I would recommend you calculating effective savings and quality of life (aka expensive rent).

Hey ! I hear you. Where can I live if I work in Palo Alto? And how much do you think I should be striving for base salary, to be able to live comfortably?

If you’re single or couple with no kids I had say move. Financially it doesn’t make sense but the career prospective at Tesla outweighs whichever car company you’re working at Michigan. If you have kids then maybe the financial hit is bigger and not worth it.

Daimler Rari0009 Feb 13, 2023

Hey! thanks I agree with you, that is the only reason I am thinking to go ahead with it because it is Tesla.

What’s your family situation? That’s the most important variable here. Household TC?

Daimler Rari0009 Feb 17, 2023

Well, I am moving with my partner & a dog.

For reference I’m single and I make 120k and no stocks. I rent a room in a house so I still save like 3k a month. So I guess it’s definitely possible in your case with a 160k. You already know how much your current monthly expenses are. Just add the extra rent and an extra 500 for the “higher” expenses and taxes.
