I joined Tesla in Jan. My offer was 140k base, 200k rsu(4 years). (8yoe). I received the RSU award in e-trade a few days back. RSU units were calculated based on avg stock price in Jan. The value of RSU units now is 30% lower. Any way to request RSU award to be based current month price? essentially asking them to disregard my Jan start date and assume I stated in March.#tech
Are you a swe? Is this Bay Area?
Yes
You got a low ball offer to be honest. Are you senior or staff?
This is a known risk of joining an overvalued company. Sucks that you didn't have the foresight to think of this likely outcome :(
I bought a Telsa in January and now it’s 30% off. Any way to request the dealer give me 30% back? Essentially asking them to disregard that I drove it off the lot in January and pretend I bought it in March. #tech
Mocking is all fun, any ideas on how to negotiate is all I'm interested in. For example, could I use this fall to negotiate a bigger award during performance reviews!!
I don’t think it’s a good idea to use stock depreciation in an attempt to negotiate for a bigger award. Your manager won’t like to hear that. You could ask for cash instead of equity if you want to reduce the risk.
Leave Tesla?
Don't obsess over it, it will jump back.
Oh you sweet summer child

Welcome to the real world my friend. We have all gone through this. You cannot negotiate based on today's stock price, stop dreaming. It is locked based on the day you actually start. To give you some perspective so you feel better, when I joined Google in July 2018 it was 1300, within weeks it dropped all the way to 1000. As of today's price, do you think I'm still pissed about that?
Work hard instead to bring it back up :)
Rofl. Had it gone up 30% would you gave been ok taking less? Tsla has a long way to fall back to reality...
Why is it so funny?? All I would care is for my TC to be what I was offered. I was thinking along the lines of using this fall to negotiate a better award during performance reviews.
And again, if tsla had gone up 30% would you be ok taking a paycut or fewer shares since it was beyond your TC? Equity, especially for such an inflated stock like tesla, is a huge gamble. You are asking for the upside without accepting the downside risk...
