Hi Blind community, I was wondering if this is a fair offer. Obviously the base is pretty low and I would like to negotiate. What I am not sure of is how much margin I have and whether or not Tesla can beat my current base salary. Current title: Sr Mechanical Design Engineer (startup) Current TC: 180k (175k base) YOE: 9 Location: Bay Area #hardware #auto #tesla #engineering
That's a standard offer for Tesla for your YOE (depends on your experience of course, 9 YOE at SpaceX or someplace like that is different than 9 YOE at Boeing or GE)
Do you know if they at least match the base pay? How much room do I have for negotiation?
Quite noob of a statement to make. Bettwr statement to make 9 yoe fo relevant experience and knowledge is better than 9 yoe of cruising. Boeing has some really good engineering teams and a lot of engineers there are better than t sla and spaceX. Do t be offended, but even if you do 😝 best of luck for the day.
Base should not be lower than your current if you are not jobless. HR is using unfair strategies. Plus it is Palo Alto.
Thanks! I’ll try to least match the base
that's no balls
Tesla is going to crash, literally, under Elmo's leadership. I'd just give them a hard pass and work somewhere that will be successful. TC: I stopped paying attention when it crossed $600k, so something more than that.
What’s the point of leaving your current company for 8k and less guaranteed cash?
The thing is I work at a small startup, and it’s likely things may go south given the economy right now.
Hmm ok then try to negotiate. I think try to push for base instead of equity
Tesla is a shit show, dont accept
Ask for P4. That's the only way.
Your situation was pretty similar to me OP. I was at a start up with 170k base and I was offered the same TC at 6 YOE. Tesla didn’t budge on TC at all. You should negotiate for a staff level. Good luck!
Thanks for the feedback! So did you take a pay cut and joined anyway? If yes, are you happy with your decision?
I did take a base pay cut and joined because I was miserable at the start up. TSLA has gone up ~2x from when I joined, so It was definitely worth it.
188 in Palo Alto 9 yoe? Damn that seems like a huge low-ball.
That’s good for non SWEs right ?
Maybe, but look at home prices in Palo Alto.. https://www.zillow.com/home-values/26374/palo-alto-ca/
