Tesla or Audible?

Currently, I am working at Tesla in Fremont as a SDE and also got an offer from Audible in NJ for same role. The TC difference is mainly the joining bonus. I know that both organisations are one of the best in their fields so making a choice has been a little difficult. What would be your advice and why? #software #swe #engineering

Cost of living is lower than CA in NJ, but I don’t think it’s that crazy. Audible is Amazon so I imagine they have some of the same toxic processes that amzn does. Not sure how Tesla is but hope that helps

NJ rent is 30% lower than Bay Area.

NJ also has no income tax

Audible techno ;) Jan 14

There’s no reason to live in NJ, unless you live in Hoboken or NYC. But then NJ Transit commute sucks.

Don't join Audible... more layoffs incoming

Amazon yourdada Jan 13

Obviously they’re guessing. The whole point of layoffs is that no one knows if they’ll happen apart from the top echelon of execs/board and anon is most definitely not one of them. I would argue this layoff round is a one-off for 2024 and we’re more likely to get a couple bigger eounds of performance related PIP like we did last year…they could also dial up the in office requirements to 3+ days which would naturally lead to more people leaving…leadership always finds a way

Cost of living in NJ is lower

Amazon hGAy13 Jan 14

In NJ, lower taxes and lower cost of living. And with bonus, you will end up saving more money + you can easily move within Amazon later. I have heard Tesla’s software culture is toxic.

They just did layoff, 5%. Maybe more to come. Choose wisely. Job Safety > a little joining bonus.
