America is a scam. I know this won’t sit well with 90% of all the people on blind here who post about their $5MM net worth @ age 27 or complaining about a measly $300k salary from a FAANG company but as we enter 2024, I wanted to let everyone know that a completely different reality exists for people who are equally as trained, educated and skilled but somehow have always found themselves on the short end of the stick. There's no such thing as an American dream. Never was. "Working hard" just gets your more work. It was all a lie. Majority of citizens work jobs where they are constantly treated like shit from coworkers and management. HR is not your friend they dgaf. Everyone is being exploited. Minimum wage is not enough to afford rent, car expenses, groceries, hygiene products. We barely get time off to do the things we actually love and barely have a social life. All these companies have kept raising prices out of greed. Food doesn't even fill me up like it used to. It feels like I'm eating cardboard. We work like slaves, making us constantly drained of energy, barely sleep, the food is all artificial trash filled with chemicals that kill us, they want us braindead and sick, healthcare is trash and poor you if you end up in the ER because that bill can leave you homeless. It's like everyone is one emergency away from losing it all, and the best part nothing can be done about it. I Always worked hard in every job I had and nothing has changed. Always went out of my way to work outside of my job description to help others and help the team without expecting extra pay. Gotta be a team player you know. Congrats to me. I see why people get into crime now. We're fucked one way or another. Good job America, you won. I give up. I was a top student growing up and have two engineering degrees in both computer science, and electrical as well as an MBA from a top ten business school and am about $250k in debt with student loans. I was laid off twice in the past two years and with legalized age discrimination in this country, I’ve been unemployable for almost 18 months because I am 48 years old. Seems like all companies want to hire someone who is 24 years old but has 30 years of work experience and was breastfed data science and business strategy since the age of two. My wife and I live together with no children and one dog but I had to move out of our rental house earlier this year because I could no longer afford it. My wife also works two jobs in a retail outlet and as a instructor at a community college and has chronic back pain and is unable to get out of bed by herself and I suffer from acid reflux and high blood pressure that will most likely morph into some form of pre-cancerous tumor in a few years but I have no health insurance so we basically accept that we have to live in physical pain until one of us finds employment to afford medical care or just end up dying so as to avoid the other person from going bankrupt and end up living homeless on the street. I have about $15k left in savings and am currently working two jobs driving for door dash and at as an admin as a veterinary clinic so we can keep the lights on at our 1 bedroom apartment for which we pay about 1200 a month. I’m thinking probably the best alternative is to live off of my savings for however long it lasts through 2024 and knowing that for sure I will never be able to secure a full time position, it would probably be best if I can commit suicide sometime next years so that’s wife can receive a payout (bc accidents do happen). I never asked to be born into this misery of existence called life in 21st century America so I don’t care about leaving this wild. However, I did choose my spouse and it’s not fair to her to bring her into this suffering and shit state of affairs so it’s only right that she ends up in a better state than what we are in now. I'm just fed up at the moment with my current position and finances. My point is Americans shouldn't have to be working multiple jobs (like me) to be able to afford the bare minimum. Call it a breakdown or whatever. I'm tired and I'm not the only one. It’s gonna take more than "postive thinking" and looking elsewhere to fix a nationwide issue. I feel hopeless at the moment hence why I said I give up. I will leave you with the famous clip from the movie “Killing Them Softly” which really sums up my sentiments well. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TkVt-hTU6E4

Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
Why don’t you move some place else
You r gonna make it, standing.
Too long, didn't read. Try working hard instead of crying 🙏 God bless
Nice, you PoS.
Look another crybaby 🙏 God bless
You’ll probably find more sympathy on Reddit anti-work sub than here on blind. Blind is different like you said. this is filled with immigrants (mostly from India and china) who came here and now have 400k jobs and for these people and even myself with a high paying tech job the American dream does exist. 🤷
I am actually the child of first generation immigrants. You will see soon
That it exists for only some people is OPs point and you proved it
OP is of the type its all your fault, not mine.
Found the guy who probably complains to his colleagues @ Amazon that n0bOdy wAnTs tO wOrK aNyMoRe while throwing 100 dollar bills to strippers at his next company outing.
The Canadian dream in 2024 is to move to the US.
If the election goes a certain way, the American dream in 2024 will be to move to Canada.
Op, you are correct, but this is blind. Consider your audience. You are posting this to a bunch of affluent entitled people who have no concept of what the world is like for most people.
💯
I agree. Teachers who take care of your children's education get paid $80k/year
So one thing 18 months unemployed means you are limiting your scope of role. In that same time you could be taking free online certifications, programs and skill building. Work with recruiters, look at your resume and make sure your resume and coverletter are aligned to each role you apply. Build your network that will benefit your job search. Buy stuff at second hand and garage sales and resell. Lastly, start your own business....you can do this for 0 upfront.
For all the folks who are in their 20s and 30s, don't buy million dollar houses or splurge on luxury rental or products, thinking you can pay them in the future. Save and invest early. Otherwise, you will regret in your 50s. Live below your means.
Can’t you sell the home if you are finding it difficult to pay mortgage later in life
Bad advice. My house value went up 50% in two years and it’s a million dollar home. If I cashed out and sold that would be the most money I’ve ever made in such a short period of time. I’m so glad I never listened to anyone who discouraged me from buying a home. Rent is now the same as my mortgage.
get over it
There’s the Blind response the OP was expecting!
Shut up Rajesh
