Your hourly wage at a big four is less than a McDonald's worker
This is true.
Terrible pay and work you like a dog
Accounting/finance guy here.. you work for experience and then move on to next chapters as fte to other firms. You work for various clients and learn a lot of things through big4 consulting. The discipline, exposure to various business processes along with connections you make along the way pay off. Goal is not to make big salary initially but after 4-5 years within big 4 onto next chapter.
Pay is pretty shit and hours are unending. Do not recommend.
Source: My SO was a consultant and they're making significantly more money now as a MLE with a FAR better WLB. Though the office closing for a week a couple times a year was nice.
Honestly, it depends. The hours vary from one engagement to another. Sometimes, you could be working 3 hours a days and there will be times when you will work more than 15 hours a day. Pay is alright. Nothing compared to big tech. I make $182k a year as manager without bonus which adds another 20% at my level. 5% of base pay goes to pension. Am I happy? Most days, yeah. I don’t remember working more than 8 hours in a year. Maybe had to log in on couple of weekends. Allows me plenty of time to focus on my investments and trading which are my primary interests
This makes me feel a lot better about the big four lol. It’s pretty much the same where I’m at right now. Could I dm you for a referral?
Sure thing.
I think it depends on your team and manager. Mine actively encourages us to take days off and brings it up at quarterly review if you haven’t put in any pto. 5 years of experience Tc $102k My first year with Deloitte
I love working at Big4! Surprisingly all negative reviews up here are from people who DONT work at Big4, lol!! I have great WLB, decent pay 160k at Senior Consultant level plus 17% bonus on top and annual merit increases of 10-12% I can do whichever certifications and trainings I want, go to any conferences I want, switch industries and even technologies if I want. The culture is great and I love the consultant life
Cybersecurity practice here. Worked at 3 of the Big 4s. Decent pay. A lot of holidays, generous PTO (EY us unlimited but you have to get it approved), summer week-long breaks for July 4th (EY and KPMG), generous time off around the holiday season. Great benefits. Overall good, but you'd end up working for a shitty manager/sr. Manager who is fake to your face and is only there to dangle a carrot in front of you since it's your "promo year", but then don't get promoted because they'll choose the one who matches their type A personality. If you are that type though you'll thrive no problem. Pay is great. New Manager here $175k base.
I hated it. Only reason I went was because I was having trouble pivoting from accounting to finance so went to Deloitte for the resume boost. Deloitte University is beautiful tho. People in the office are always judging you and you could get feedback from a random manager or higher that tattled on you to your manager, the way they hire in cohorts is used to make you competitive with others within your cohort, hours suck, pay sucks
Pay: low Hours: long Respect: none below partner Prestige: only to normies
true. my wife has been a consultant at Deloitte and EY.
