Hello All, I hope everyone is doing well. I was recently laid off due to a corporate restructuring. So I am back on the job market. It's been awhile since my last search and I don't know about you but I have found the job search experience very frustrating. 1: Apply for the job 2: wait a few days for a response 3: get a response from the recruiter to schedule a phone screen within a few days. 4: have the 15-20 min screen 5: wait for a few days to get a response 6: schedule a phone interview with hiring manager 7: wait a few days 8: have the interview 9: wait a few days for a response 10: hear back from the recruiter for a technical phone interview 11: wait a few days 12: have the technical interview 13: wait more than a few days 14: hear back from the recruiter to schedule an in person interview 15: wait a few days 16: have the interview 17: wait more than a few days 18: get a positive response and told an offer is coming soon 19: wait a few days 20: still waiting... I have 2 companies/offers pending and still waiting. Those are the positive responses (if you call waiting positive). Nevermind the 4 that have ghosted me after the in person interview. Steps 1-20 above have been 6+ weeks. My question is - can we do something to make this a better proccess? Does it really need to be this drawn out?
Looks like you’re looking for an instant hire/job/interview button. Job hunting requires patience (90%) and skill
I have 30 years experience and I have been lucky enough that every job has been super quick because I knew someone. And it's been 12 years since I last had to look for a job. So ya this process is too long.
Unfortunately the older you get the harder it is to find a job since younger people don’t mind doing 10-12 hour just to learn more
Tell recruiter you have an imminent offer elsewhere and they rush the process if they want you.
For me, one of the FAANG companies skipped the tech screening entirely when they heard that I'm having an on-site with another FAANG (I told them which one).
Skipped as in went straight to onsite?
In addition to saying that you have a serious offer elsewhere, you can work with headhunter firms. If you can connect with a recruiter they will place you.
I’m a Recruiter, and personally I think there should be a kind of Yelp for Recruiters, where candidates can rate us and leave reviews. This type of pressure would force us collectively to treat candidates better and try harder. The bar is currently extremely low.
Yep, it was clear a lot of recruiters here want resumes to pad how many potential candidates. In another city, if I was contacted by a recruiter it almost always resulted in an offer. But ultimately the company would blow it for the recruiter - renegging on site location options and other value-add plusses. Oh the tales I have.
Doesn’t sound like a profitable product to me
Have you tried TripleByte?
not really, you can't, people are disorganized, and ATS systems suck ass (and recruiters are dumb and don't know how to use them on top of that) i worked at a startup that only had 2-3 rounds of interviews from start to finish and it took us 1 month.
Gosh. I wish I could share specifics to help others, but I can't risk outing myself to my employer. Maybe you can DM PIP_Ninja at Amazon. I'll try to find the recent resource I found. I'll just update this post.
Job hunting is seriously one of the most god awful experiences one can go through. Hang in there
