There is really a gender pay gap?

I compared pay with my same level male coworker and we both made the same. Not sure if gender pay gap is a real thing. Because I only hear liberal men (not women) keep telling me about it but I don't see it in the tech industry. I get maybe at bad companies or other industries it is a thing. But for engineering it seems like a myth. #google #amazon TC 320k

In tech, no

Same pay for the same level, but harder for women to move up the ladder

True

And tougher for men to get job because of so called diversity hirings.

You cannot really generalize based on your example. Being in Apple, you may not see it since big companies enforce zero pay gap. There are so many companies and fields where women are not paid equally as their male counterparts.

I admitted it can be a thing outside tech. But white men with man buns and painted nails enjoy telling me I am a victim of a pay gap. Which is annoying to me. Might just be a bay area thing.

I’m a woman and 100% there is a pay gap in non FAANG companies. And I have two stories for this! I’ve been laid off twice. Once at a smallish company in tech and once at Shopify (July 2022). After each I sent a spreadsheet to all the laid off folks to write down our salaries to help with negotiations for our next jobs. We were already laid off so there wasn’t any risk. Well at the small company all the women made AT LEAST 20% less. Additionally they had higher years of experience in the same job category as the men. I didn’t get any responses for people fresh from school in an entry level position though. At Shopify the numbers were much closer although regionally much different. So where you lived was much more influential of your salary than your gender. Not to be mean, but saying that you not seeing a pay gap — even though you work at a company that championed closing the pay gap — and then determining that there must be no pay gap anywhere is just, well, silly. And also shitty.

This was the thing in past. But yeah make you more liberal in raising this

Yes. Your sample size of 1 is 💯 indicative of the wider situation. Extrapolating from it, IDK why people complain about a cost of living crisis when they make $320k per year. It’s just a banana povvos. How much could it cost? 10 dollars?

Good job in using a sample to represent a population

Ignoring the whole debate on factors, pay gap has improved a lot over the years actually too https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2020/01/30/womens-lead-in-skills-and-education-is-helping-narrow-the-gender-wage-gap/ People seem to forget that we do make progress (women are now more educated than men, pay gap reduced a lot, and the ozone layer hole is almost completely healed) because no one reports positive news so everyone sulks in Doomerism

There was a demand inside Google to address the gender pay gap, they did some research and found that women were getting paid more than men. That was the last time we heard about it inside the company. I am sure if opposite had been the case then there would have been a whole drama for multiple years about how Google is sexist.

Lol, men need to complain more!

Google NkNI13 Mar 9, 2023

??? What research? I just got my class action payout due to women getting paid less at Google
