Hi everyone, I currently work as a software engineer in Amazon (Seattle). I have some thoughts to start a non-profit in my home country to address a social problem. To be clear, I don't intend to take out any salary from the non-profit, but I want to play an active role in the day-to-day operations as much as possible. I understand I need a conflict of interest waiver from Amazon (to address the no moonlighting clause and possibly the domain might be related to area where Amazon does business), before I can have an active involvement in it. Has anyone gone through such an experience in the past? Specific questions: 1. How do I start the process to obtain no-conflict waiver? 2. How much time does it take to get the waiver. 3. What all pre-requisites are required for me to prepare before I start the process to be better prepared/get waiver faster? 4. Any other details/info on this. #amazon #nonprofit
Why is this post in AMA channel?
Hello, wanted to understand the amazon specific experience if anyone has gone about it in the past (since I work there). Feel free to share your experience even if you had gone through such an experience while working in another company.
AMA is short for “ask me anything”. It has nothing to do with Amazon.
How do you start a non profit in India?
Bring this up with Amazon and you'll get fired
Why don’t you go back and work there ?
Yeah, second that! Your motherland needs you badly!!
Fair questions/points, but I have my reasons to operate in this way for a few years.
