I started at Google 6 months ago from Amazon. Went from zero perks to super perks. Most I knew about already but being Paid for oncall outside office hours shocked the hell out of me. I guess I've been conditioned to work for free outside of office hours for so long at Amazon and other companies I assumed it was just part of the job. For that week or two, you're home bound or need to lug your laptop with you if you're going somewhere and ENSURE where you're headed has a good connection. It's a thankless duty. But getting paid makes it less miserable. All companies should do this! #mindblown TC 400k (after stock dip) Yoe 8, L5

Does meta also pay for oncall?
I don’t think so
No.
I can imagine. how was your interview experience? Any study tips?
It wasn't so bad. Maybe because it was on a Friday so everyone went easy on me lol. I did a lot of LC medium which helped
Ok so schedule interviews on Friday. Noted
Nice! Are you hourly or exempt? Now if we could pass the Google interview that would be great! 🤣
Just a regular fulltime employee. I got lucky on the second try ;-)
Hourly or exempt means same thing. OP, you can still be a full time but be paid either hourly or salary. Most companies that do salary does not do on-call overtime pay whereas Google is the rare one that does. Exempt employees (who get paid hourly) get paid on-call.
Do you mind me asking, how much is the pay?
There are different tiers, 1-3. 1 is highest, don't remember how much. Mine is 2, so 33% of base per hour. Can't complain.
It's like 1.x your regular rate based on the tier. My spouse goes on call once a quarter, and on average she earns essentially an extra paycheck by the end of the year with all the on-call overtime. YMMV as her on-call isn't too intense and doesn't usually have a lot of outside working hours duties that take more than an hour to resolve.
How do they keep track of extra hours??
It's just based on the on-call schedule. You get the money whenever you're primary on-call, doesn't matter if you actually got paged after hours or not.
I thought this was standard practice everywhere?
I've never been paid at Amazon or other places for it. I think most don't.
I almost took this for granted since my previous employer, a no name startup, also paid extra for oncall.
Good for you, upcoming onsite for G, any tips?
Do as many LC medium as you can, which was my approach. But this was also my second attempt.
I am on my second attempt also, my first attempt I got two hards, so now I am more concerned, are LC Tagged enough?
Wait what? I didn't know this was the case. Are you sure?
Yeah, MoMA it
I was explicitly told by someone this used to be the case but not anymore but I'll check
Woah that’s awesome
Sevaka!
How much per hour?
