lmao okay buddy have you noticed how in under 6 months, huggingface has become an irrelevant meme? nobody in the world has the data or the compute power to train larger and larger models. have you read the latest paper published by google brain? they’re training models with 15m input tokens. for context, gpt 4 has 100k max tokens. the demo they showcased featured some random kid who drew a random picture and asked gemeni 1.5 to retrieve the exact frame that this scene had happened in an hour long movie. and gemeni did it. you know how fucking crazy that is? whether it actually works or not in production. google trained their models on countless tpus (their own accelerators) and burned tens of millions on compute costs alone. never mind the hundreds of people they have working on this thing no “open source” regular ass joe is going to have the money to do shit like this. nor the data needed to do this. hell they don’t even have the storage capability to store the data needed to do this the days of open source and hugging face are dead and i say that with great sadness and concern. but you can’t deny the inevitable
my work in grad school was on model compression, guarantee these models will be 1000x-10000x reduced in both training time and model size within 2 years, very common practices havent yet been applied and published yet bc the research community is too busy iterating on capability rather than optimization, same thing happened to ff, conv, rnn, etc believe it or not, not much has changed since first nn, its just you have to understand the history of the maths to realize it open source will demolish woke models
