This is brilliant: Software engineer got tired of getting rejected by automated screeners and tested a theory. Real resume: 0% success Obviously fake resume stuffed with buzzwords: 90% success rate Calls from from Notion, AirBnB, Reddit, Dropbox, Robinhood, etc https://twitter.com/Coding_Career/status/1454293034179317764?t=lPKMwHmDgF0uyrsPMisw5w&s=19
Are you surprised?
Kinda. I mean, I do understand... however, you still need recruiters to do some diligence in checking the resume before even interacting.
You(angela lee) replying to the email is the best filter. They will then look at the resume during the call.
The name is enough to get a phone screen
Lololol underrated comment
When interviewing candidates for an ML position, I ask if they have optimized their resume for AI ranking. In today's environment the best candidates will.
Totally. I actually did so with my resume which actually got some calls. But still, some due diligence to at least check the resume should be done.
Any resources (eg blogs/writeups) on this? Not sure what you mean by AI ranking optimization - is this analogous to SEO?
The fake resume is hilarious.
Exactly. Which questions the reach out. I find it difficult to understand why they reached out. Ahh well.
That’s what recruiters do. I get reached out from witch companies and from other companies for some $20/hour contractor roles.
I guess you're probably new to the industry. It's not 'wild'. It's how it has always been. Always. It is a numbers game. Recruiters need help of keywords to screen resumes. I mean you can't expect them to call just everyone right.
Not really. But new to trying to get into big leagues.
Got it! Me too actually. But yea, keywords have always played the major role in getting resumes screened.
The funny thing is this is software written by SWEs anyway.
You’ll get past the screen with this resume, but you’ll get auto rejected first time a technical engineer sees your resume. Source: I’ve tried.
Me friend did something similar, applied to 5 places and got back 4 responses. It seems like company name(s) mattered the most in getting him the callbacks, as everything else in the resume was literally incoherent and didn’t contain any industry buzzwords
Yes it’s called volume sourcing, u have keywords, I talk to u!
Lmfao
You gotta understand, the normal req load for a recruit is 15-20 esp in this crazy market. We be screening thru like 200-300 resumes a day + interviews + meeting + administrative tasks + reporting, etc. some times it’s just a numbers game! Try being a recruiter and you will understand :)
