How is it like working at Thomson Reuters as a Software Engineer in Toronto? I heard the WLB is great. What are the learning opportunities like and career growth? Do developers also get to chose the machines (Mac or PC) they’d rather work on? TC 73k YOE < 1
In general WLB is great. Learning opportunity and career growth is highly dependant to your team and manager. I got to choose my machine(not sure how it is right now)
Thank you for confirming the WLB…looking to apply there soon. How are you enjoying your tenure there so far? Are you based on Toronto?
Wouldn't join if you have 1yoe. Everyone has been here for ages and have an unsaid chemistry amongst themselves. They don't move as fast as they should. Typical huge scale company where crap tonnes of processes in place and nothing gets done. I don't even have a sandbox account to practice or do a POC.
Comp is okay at best. And varies depending on your pay band. Wlb is great. Learning opportunity is generally good as the company wants to focus on employee development. But learning on your day to day job will vary depending on team and product.
Wide band but decent comp, great wlb, management is spotty and can vary dependent on where you are within the company. Learning opportunities are based on the department you’re in, there’s a billion processes by design. I went from Eng to Sr.Eng within a year so if you can prove yourself, there is growth available. I didn’t get to choose my machine but I didn’t really have a specific preference. Overall it’s a decent company in Canada but not very competitive outside of it.

I interviewed with them a year ago. I didn't get great vibes. It seemed to have a service based company vibe. Pay isn't high either. For 7 yoe they were maxed out at 125k cad.
Thanks I’ll keep that in mind when/if I get to the interview stage
