Thoughts on Intern Going Amazon -> Nvidia, MongoDB, or Clumio

I’m trying to think of creating my list of companies I should apply for Summer 2021. Note, I will have 1 more internship in Summer 2022 before applying for full-time right after. People told me I shouldn’t apply to 100+ companies now that I have a large tech company on my resume, but it’s really hard narrowing the list. I interned on a frontend mobile team at Amazon, and I really want more exposure in machine learning, data, full-stack/backend, quant, and PM roles. Nvidia has some really interesting roles in deep learning, computer vision and ML, but people seem to think the company isn’t that prestigous compared to unicorns or FAANG. MongoDB is a really interesting database company, but I’m not sure if I should just try to get placed on an AWS team since its prestige seems to have dropped. Clumio is a really cool startup that’s gaining traction, but doesn’t seem to be that prestigious/known. Would going to one of these companies not benefit me as much as if I were to intern at more prestigious companies like Google/FB/Snowflake/Robinhood/Stripe next summer?

If you can land an intern position at Google or FB sure go ahead. If your focus is on DL or CV, I don’t think having Nvidia on your resume is an issue. AFAIK, Nvidia pays as much as FANG to interns if not more.

That’s good to hear. I’m definitely interested in ML/DL/CV problems the most, but it’s been tough breaking into it even though I have a lot of research experience (for an undergrad) in ML and DL.
