Saw a job post for EA at Airbnb and got me to thinking, maybe being an EA would be cooler than being a code monkey nerd. In addition, I'm guessing it's well paid like SWE and a presumably easier, lower-stress job where I don't have to look at code all day but actually get to talk with people as my job, organize events, facilitate all hands Q&A, etc. But the particular job post I saw said 5+ years experience required so I didn't end up applying :( Also, is this career path even possible for a straight white/asian man (i.e. non diversity employee)? I have only ever seen female EAs across the 3 silicon valley companies I worked at (never seen a male HR or DI&E exec either come to think of it). tc: 150k, 0 yoe
Are you a hot girl? Otherwise stick to coding
Good point. Alas, I'm an average or below-average looking male AB-Desi :(
Yep, so coding it is 😉
what is their TC?
I’ve been an EA for over 15 years and love it. But I highly doubt you’ll make more than an SWE ($150k) and I can tell you the job is not easy. Especially working at VP/SVP level. It’s not at all a “lower stress job”. I guess it all depends where you’re working and who you’re working for.
Why would anyone wanna do that 🤷🏽♂️
