Which large tech companies you think will last 20+ years?
Does anyone have any thoughts on working at Samsung? I'm looking to apply for an internship there, but I've heard mixed opinions about culture, support, and work life balance. #samsung #google #swe #internship
Overall not terrible, but mobility can be limited depending on team. Highly influenced by South Korean work culture. Unwritten expectations to respond to emails at all hours and prioritize work over personal time. If you can hold your liquor, you’ll do well when executives visit and want to take everyone to dinner.
Thanks. Did you work there previously or currently?
My partner worked there for 8 years up until April last year
Entirely depends on team and division. Samsung is a massive company, SSI is pretty nice, SRA is fcken ass , SEA is okay...
I'm working in a Research Center and WLB is amazing. I'm literally working 2 hours per day. TC is bad though. You are pretty safe here (no layoffs) because Samsung is like 15% of Korean GDP so it cannot fall.
They don’t do layoffs at Korea?
I work here now. We're life balance and other factors are very highly teen dependent. Also, which part of Samsung are you interested in? Samsung is basically a conglomerate of sub Samsung companies. Each one of them has their own personality, set of executives, ties to South Korea, etc. Speaking more broadly though, there is a problem with the way things get communicated with Korea. Ideally, these type of reorganizations or major structural changes should only happen infrequently, though. But when they do happen, the communication about them can seem very terse and unsympathetic.
Thanks! I’m interested in applying for two pm/pmm internships in Samsung electronics. One is with mobile phones and the other is with PCs.
Go with mobile phone business team. PCs shipment are in the gutter. Zero future prospects.
Feel free to DM if any questions.
It's fucked up. People staying longer than 5 years will exploit you and make you leave in 2 years
Intern looking for WLB? 🤔
Well, hopefully I’d get a return offer for full time… but also I want to have time to enjoy my summer. Didn’t realize that was an unreasonable concern. 😂
