I’m interviewing at Tencent currently and politics aside, I wanna know what the culture is like there. Is it truly 996? What is the work life balance? I hear it’s not as bad as Bytedance. I speak rudimentary Chinese so I feel like I can get by. I I’m not happy at my current role at zoox but I don’t want to walk away from potential ZARs in the future. Current TC 300k if I stay 4 years at zoox Tencent offer $220k plus stock #Tencent #Zoox
Having a Ch*nese company on your resume is a badge of honor. It’s actually not as bad as everyone makes it sound, and if it is— that’s how you earn your badge
why you think it's an honor?
Because you indirectly work for the supreme leader Jinping unlike your regular american job where you work for your boring CEO. Always serve at the highest level.
So….. that’s a no to tencent then?
Tencent is an absolute shit hole. I stayed 6 months and that was the worst time of my all career. Boy I don’t even know where to start. The culture is very toxic and some colleagues are very hostile. No one ever helps you when onboarding and some colleagues like to embarrass you in front of the larger group. Work hours, constant 9am-11pm six days a week. Management, spineless and useless , they don’t care about your career or health of the team. I would strongly recommended you look for something else. This is coming from someone currently at TikTok, imagine how bad it is there.
Oh wow okay thanks for the insight. I don’t understand why Glassdoor reviews all say it’s great culture. They did say no wlb though.
So it's the Amazon in China then
If you can handle 996, you would’ve proven your worth
I can’t handle.
Tencent has a better wlb than most China companies.
Great wlb
Which team are you in? Tencent is like a large tribe where different clans live mostly on their own. So different teams have very different cultures, and they seldom cooperate due to internal competition. For example, members in their WeChat core team are blessed (people call them dragonborns internally). They have the best resources, never 996, highest pay, enjoy the best office locations, etc. But if you’re going to some departments making less profit, you are done. You would find incompetent managers, hopeless colleagues, and everyone works harder than 996 and hates their jobs and managers. So it would be better to know your department before you decide, otherwise it would be like a Gacha game for careers.
I already told them no. I didn’t wanna move forward. But it was for risk management for their suppliers and it was going to be in the Bay Area.
If it's in China then it's 996. If it's a Western country you're 👌👌👌.
I thought tencent offers 10cents tc
They cranked it up to $0.10
