What do you guys think about ebay in its current state. Thoughts about the technical level of eBay. Is it not a good idea to stay there long for someone starting their career.
The problem is I don't abt eBay at all. The won't come to if I am looking for something to buy.
Great place to work in 2004
huh, they still exist?
Yes, and it's better than ever. You should check it out
lol. Better than ever 😂
Solid company if you are young and want a challenge... Still a ton of growth in ecommerce retail... Not as awesome as it was 12 years ago but I learned a ton working there... They allowed a lot of experimentation when i was there
If by experimentation you mean new projects getting bogged down for months. There is the new product division, they are doing interesting things with nlp, image recognition, etc, but the team is tiny.
it's the equivalent of myspace... no wait... friendster.
Except for the public stock and profitability as a real company. You're right, nothing like MySpace or Friendster.
I chose it over yelp, salesforce and a well known start up I was working at. I'm interested in e-commerce and ebay is a player in the field located in Bay Area. I don't like Seattle weather... so many factors come to my decision. I've been here for 5 months and the stock got 50% more in the market, my teammates and manager are friendly, knowledgeable. Work is always a lot at any company, it's just about how your manager pressures it. Overall, good company for me
If you joined a little earlier you'd say "stock got 50% less"...
Afaik ebay is at an all time high.., stop using google finance
i justed noticed that i didn't open ebay.com since 2 years. whats your avg page views per sec ?
I didn't know anybody used eBay anymore.
Do you want to meet up sometime so I can tell you how I'm using Windows these days?
Pfft....you have no idea what you're missing. Waaay better than Amazon
Too expensive to sell stuff on eBay now. Especially with both eBay and PayPal (which they own now) fees. Hope someone can disrupt this space. OfferUp seems like a legit competitor. Amazon marketplace is trying but nowhere close. eBay also needs to improve their CS. Had multiple bad experiences in the past and I told myself I ain't ever gonna work there becuz of that. Not that my CS experience would have any correlation but still.
What does CS stand for?
context switch. more seriously though: customer service
I think they are a young adult type company. Plenty of interesting things to master and own like small biz commerce i.e. Shopify etc. But plenty to lose too if they don't start kicking ass. StubHub and Classified have tons of growth potential. Their design and UX could help them win the future. I think they are in their own way. I have friends there and am tempted to apply this Fall. Do you like it?
I like the relaxed work culture and friendly people . I do think that the people could be more technical. That'd be better for learning early on.
