What is the breakdown of tiers for ML quant trading firms? Available tiers: 1, 2, and 3, where tier 1 is the best. I will add to this list based on the comments. Tier 1: Rentech, DE Shaw Tier 2: JS, two sigma Tier 3: akuna, optiver, IMC
Rentech is arguably the most elite firm regardless of industry. They won’t even give you a look unless you get a PhD in stem from a top 20 university.

Correct ranking Tier 1: RenTech, TGS Management, PDT Partners. These are the best shops in the world, only going after PhD folks who genuinely love research in sciences or math. Good luck getting in, but if you do, I’ll give you my life savings. All specialize in stats arb. Tier 2: Jane Street, Five Rings, HRT Tier 3: Citadel, Two Sigma, DE Shaw, Millenium
