With all the reports confirming that Bytedance shared with Chinese officials, contrary to congressional hearing statements, when do you think we’ll finally see a ban of this cancer? We knew about about golden shares for several years now, and the incredible reporting showed that US user data was used to track down users who were talking to known reporters. They symbolically threw 4 employees under the bus for being sloppy and bringing shame to China by getting caught. Bytedance thinks that politicians really will believe they simply moving data to US data centers or Oracle will actually address security concerns. Anyone in tech knows that geographic boundaries make no difference, anyone can log in with the right permissions. https://www.forbes.com/sites/emilybaker-white/2022/12/22/tiktok-tracks-forbes-journalists-bytedance/ https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/22/technology/byte-dance-tik-tok-internal-investigation.html https://nypost.com/2023/01/16/tiktok-offers-to-have-third-party-check-if-china-spying-on-us-users/
Meanwhile Google and Amazon collaborating with FBI and CIA
so that makes it okay for China to do it?
The difference is that there are actual checks and balances there. If there was any back door dealings going on, it would absolutely be leaked to the press. In this case, Bytedance is literally lying to the US government about what they are doing with our data. Same situation that lead to Huawei and Lenovo. Even sealed car parts are being used for spying. https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1718128/chinese-tracking-device-car-security-fear-UK-government-ont
US tech companies do the same for US government. They won’t even let you talk about it with gag orders. Should all other countries ban US tech companies? Companies used to add a line in quarterly report saying “We didn’t receive any legal requests to divulge info on our users this quarter.” If you didn’t see that statement, it indicated that we got requests. It was a workaround for gag orders. They made us stop that too. You can’t even acknowledge that you received a request.
Is the US government putting political opponents in prison? “disappearing” people who talk bad about the government on social media? For US requests there’s an entire legal process with checks and balances. You honestly can’t compare the two unless you’re a CCP shill. Straw man argument is a common technique used by their propaganda bots any time their transgressions are pointed out.
Tbf China does ban many US tech companies
Not a chance. Make the same rules for all social media and this story goes away immediately. This is funded by TikTok’s competitors, the government doesn’t give a shit.
They do have the same rules, the difference is that Bytedance lies to congress and doesn’t comply. Chinese college students were forced to re-assert their loyalty to the CCP when they returned for the holidays, as well as indicate guarantors if they were to defect. https://www.fbi.gov/investigate/counterintelligence/the-china-threat
Did not clear TikTok interview ?
Worked there, left when I saw this type of behavior myself. They’ll never go public even if they don’t get banned. You’d had to be a total fool to work for this company.
That's my main regret working for TikTok, the company will never go public. Wondering if I should unload my $80k of shares onto the grey market after it's not banned.
Latest trend on TT live is to show your night routines, sit on gaming chair half naked, drop an underwear in the pillow and thousands wait for something to happen 🤣🤣🤣
pretty much the early twitch days 😩
Desi OP 🤧
Even DJT didn’t had the balls to ban them. Not gonna happen in this administration.
I’m more worried about the mental health effects of young kids
Which is already screwed thanks to meta
You can't worry about "the mental health effects of young kids" when your country is taken. It's too late. Focus is on having the root cause resolved.
